Team Director

School-Based Team Director Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an active and effective member of the Instructional Leadership Team 
  • Actively collaborate with fellow teacher leaders and school leaders to implement effective ILT practices
  • Under the direction and guidance of the Office of Teaching and Learning and Office of Network Support, as well as the principal, implement a strategic action plan and continuous improvement strategies founded in the CPS Framework for Teaching to positively impact student-based outcomes
  • Lead team(s) of teachers: The Team Director must lead a team (or teams) of teachers in enacting the instructional core; this can include, but is not limited to planning and facilitating grade-level meetings, providing lesson plan feedback, analyzing data and/or student-work, leading instructional core walks
  • Provide connective coaching for the teachers on the team(s) they lead: Build the day-to-day instructional capacity of classroom teachers on the teams they lead to deliver district instructional core priorities via effective leadership of Instructional Teams.
EligibilityTeam Directors are selected by school principals based on recommended criteria: Teachers most likely to succeed as team directors typically meet the following eligibility criteria: Experienced in CPS (minimum 3 years of teaching in CPS), a demonstrated track record of effective teaching, some experience leading peers/adults effectively (informally or formally), actions and words reflect a commitment to equity and a belief that all students and adults are capable of growth. TIME COMMITMENTServices to School: Establish and maintain a regular cadence of meetings for strategically-aligned team of teachers (typically grouped by shared grade level/band and/or content). Using resources provided, plan and facilitate thoughtful, focused meetings. Attend all ILT meetings with exceptions for extenuating circumstances. Maintain transparent progress monitoring tools. Regularly report progress toward school goals to school leadership via scheduled check-ins and at ILT meetings. Serve as a bridge between ILT and the grade/content team. Professional Growth and Learning: New-to-role onboarding (summer through the school year). Pre-service role-specific leadership training; sessions typically offered in the summer. Attend all ILT Institutes and Teacher Leader Summits.
