Tier 1: The Aspiring Assistant Principal Institute (AAPI) is a year-long program aimed at preparing aspiring assistant principals (teacher leaders, school counselors and other staff) by providing knowledge and tools for school leadership. Participants identify areas of needed improvement and self-assess their readiness for the AP role.

Tiers 2 and 3: These tiers of the Aspiring Assistant Principal Institute include year-long professional development aimed at preparing high-potential aspiring assistant principals (teacher leaders, school counselors and other staff) who currently hold their principal endorsement, have successfully completed REACH training and certification and who aspire to become assistant principals within the next one to two years. The program requires participants to engage in a learning project that will strengthen instructional practice in their own school, providing applied practice with leadership skills between sessions and evidence of learning and progress during their program year. Applicants must list their current principal (or supervisor) in the application as recommender for the program. Each Tier 3 participant will be paired with an experienced Assistant Principal Mentor who will provide coaching and support throughout the year.

Eligibility: Tier 1: Pursuing an ISBE Educator License with Administrative Endorsement. Tier 2 and 3: Have an ISBE Educator License with Administrative Endorsement, Trained and Certified to evaluate teachers (REACH) - [Tier 3]
